Leading with Purpose

By Peter Megoulas, President, Board of Directors

My journey with Voce began in 2021 when I learned the organization was looking for a banking partner to support its growth. At the time, I was working at Members 1st, a community-driven organization focused on giving back. The more I learned about Voce, the more I realized our missions were closely aligned.

That connection led to lunch with Dr. Rick Azzaro and Devin Knaub, both leaders in the company. As they shared more about Voce’s purpose, I instantly felt drawn to the work. During my college years, I was involved with my Student Government Association, and we worked with the youth in Philadelphia to provide after school resources and programming for those who needed it. I have always felt that investing in at-risk youth creates better opportunities for the future. It only takes one person to make a lasting impact.

Since joining the board of directors, one moment from last year has stuck with me. We often kick off our meetings with a “mission moment.” We heard about a young boy in foster care who loved playing with Hot Wheels cars. What stood out most wasn’t just his love of toy cars, it was the safe, nurturing foster home he was in. In one video, the foster parent kept losing a race, and the little boy picked out a car and said, “Try this one, I know it is a winner!” Seeing a child feel safe, confident, and cared for in that way reminds me exactly why I’m here.

I’m proud to have served as a board member for the past four years, and I’ve recently accepted the role of President of the Board. I’m excited to work alongside staff as we plan for the future of the organization. Growth is a major focus, and Voce is making strong strides toward what’s next.

In my board role, I bring a strong mix of communication, critical thinking, and attention to detail. I enjoy tackling challenges and exploring creative solutions. I’m also a listener, and I try to stay available whenever someone needs support or a thoughtful conversation.

What I want people to understand the most is that Voce’s work extends far beyond adoption and permanency services. Its expertise also includes Trauma and Loss, Diversity and Inclusion, Individual and Family Well-Being, and Human Services Technology. All of these areas need engaged community members who care and want to use their voice and share their ideas to help shape Voce’s future.

Looking ahead, I’m especially excited about our Strategic Plan and how it will guide growth in the coming years. The board and leadership team share the same vision: to expand Voce through new programs, services, and technology. Seeing new contracts awarded is a strong sign of that momentum and our commitment to diversifying revenue streams beyond the work we do in adoption and permanency.

It feels like we’re beginning a new chapter, and I’m eager to see what we build together.
